Kurinuki Cottages - Two Day Group Course

£240.00

Come to the studio with some friends for a two-day class where I will teach you the traditional Japanese technique of kurinuki and show you how to make your own mini cottages (or Asian-style teacups if you prefer). These cottages are beautiful as ornaments on their own or can be used as incense burners or luminaries.

Kurinuki is all about the slow, meditative process of carving clay, so it’s perfect for a fun, relaxing weekend. Ideal for beginners or potters that want to try something new.

On Saturday I’ll show you all how to wedge and shape your clay, ready for the first step of kurinuki, which is to hollow out your form by slowly removing clay from the inside. Overnight we’ll let your pieces dry out so they are ready for Sunday when you will add decorative carvings to the outside of your piece. This is where you can get creative and add personal touches to really make the cottage your own!

The price of the class includes glazing and firing for two pieces each, so you can come back to pick them up once they are out of the kiln. I have a selection of glaze colours for you to pick from for your finished pottery.

Classes will have up to three people and take place between 14:00 and 16:00 on Saturday and Sunday. Just select your preferred weekend from the dropdown menu when adding to the basket.

Lessons are for up to three people - if you would like to book for more people, please email hello@blankearth.co.uk.
